Policy Forum on Transitional Justice and Dealing with the Past in South Kivu, DRC

On 21 November 2018, Impunity Watch, in partnership with the CCJT and RACOJ, organised a Policy Forum in Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with provincial authorities and political actors from South Kivu Province.

The Bukavu Forum follows a Forum organised in Goma a week earlier among political actors from North Kivu Province. The objectives of this latest Forum were to discuss the findings and the recommendations from Impunity Watch's research into transitional justice in the DRC, pushing the political actors present to reflect on their role in the establishment, the promotion and the implementation of mechanisms and initiatives for dealing with the past.

Both forums come at an important moment in the DRC’s history, as the electoral campaign for the December elections has just been launched. IW and our partners are advocating for TJ to be put on the political agenda at all levels of Congolese political society.

A short report on the Forum is available in English and French (original).
